So much has been made of Lily Allen’s decision to retire from pop music, it’s nice to have the lady herself speak up and tell us just what is going on. Does she plan to fade into obscurity living life in the country, or is the gobby Lily will love planning to stick around?The 26-year-old singer is of course launching herself as something of a serious fashionista along with her older sister Sarah Owens. The pair already own a shop together called Lucy In Disguise, and now they’ve just launched a range of vintage inspired clothes. So what is going on with Lily? The retired pop star tells Sunday Times Style that she doesn’t want to give up on fame, “The point I decided to take a break, two years ago, was the point when I was having a baby and settling down with my boyfriend, who has his job here in London. I can’t ask him to quit and come on the road with me. It wouldn’t be good doing that if you’re pregnant or you’ve got a small child around. That’s why I made that decision. It was never about… I feel disgusting talking about this, because it’s like, I still want to be famous, I just don’t want to sing.”
Lily also explains that she can’t give up on being a celebrity because she simply can’t afford not to work, “I knew I had to do something else because I’m not wealthy enough not to work for the rest of my life. I’m accustomed to living in a certain way. I like having a nice house and filling it with nice things. I’d like to be that position for the rest of my life so obviously I’m going to have to work.”
